Trend Report Spring-Summer 2011

Colour of the season : Pop me some NEON

With the mercury rising, hot cocoa is being replaced by chilled iced teas…The trips to the beach and dips in the pool are just around the corner…Ladies, summer is finally here! Its time to pack up the mufflers, stockings, boots and jackets and make way for flirty dresses, hot pants, tankinis and bikinis.

The time to shop and stock up your wardrobes is here, wondering what colour to to buy when you go summer shopping?? Here is the answer – BRIGHT AND LOUD, something that would catch the eye…NEON!!!

Gone are the days when summer meant white and pastel shades…its time to experiment, go wild and just play with colours.

You can choose from electric blue and fuchsia pink to bright yellow and parrot green depending on your personal choice and skin tone.

The colour could be anywhere from being on your clothes to your shoes and even makeup. For the ones who want to play safe should try bright nail paints and small accessories like brightly coloured scarves, handbags, headbands and bangles.

The idea is to mix and match, to incorporate a single bright shade to POP your outfit

A classic white shirt and blue jeans combo can be an instant hit if you pair a bright orange Hermes belt and bag with it.

Or a plain black ganjee from the flea market can look priceless when paired with a chunky electric blue neckpeice.

For casual day looks you can work with this –

High end labels like Zara, Forever 21 and Mango have some excellent shorts in colours like hot pink, jewel green and turquoise. You can pair these up with a basic white t shirt lying at home and metallic Osho chappals from the street and you’ re ready to rock.

For formal wear at night

Chuck the boring old LBD and go in for a burst of colour, a well cut short dress in red, candy pink, amber or jewel green can knock totally off peoples socks!

You can also wear your black skinnies teamed with a bright coloured blouse or tube top and pair it with sky high stilettos of the same colour.

You can also accommodate a bright colour in the form of your handbag, a tiny violet clutch or a bright carrot tote that would add spark to a boring dress in black or white.

Neon in makeup

Want some drama?? Colored eyeshadow is your best friend!!! Try leaf, parrot and neon greens with lemony yellows blend to create life on your eyes like never before.

You can also play with Magenta and Purple..mix shades of these for a super glam look.

For lips, try oranges and bright peaches, shades of bright pink and red with minimal eye makeup. Really, you don’t want to end up looking like a disco ball, do you?

Not to forget, bright colored nail paints in peaches, oranges, purples and pinks look ultra hot!

In fact, Inglot and MAC have launched a range of neon cosmetics this season. Check ’em out!

TOP TIPS

Playing with bright colours is a lot of fun and a little dangerous, it has to be done just right!

Remember being simple and clean is the key. We are not looking at getting cluttered and pancaked.

Clean styles, well fitted silhouettes and comfort matter a lot.

Make sure that you aren’t using more than one or two bright colours together otherwise you’ll end up looking like a crayon box!

The trick is to INCORPORATE one BRIGHT colour in a plain outfit in the form of either a belt or shoes or a handbag or the jewelery and makeup.

Just cause neon is in doesn’t mean you go overboard and have bright orange nail paint and makeup and pair it with an electric blue dress, CONCENTRATE on one thing…either the makeup or the clothes or the accessories.

Lastly,

Don’t be afraid, have fun…be confident…you are young and beautiful so punk it up!
