Big, Bold and Beautiful

By Ramsha Alam

Our clothes are one of the important features which help shape our individual identities. The kind of clothes we wear and the manner in which they are worn give away a lot about us.
Not all of us have been blessed with nymph-like bodies like those of Kate Moss, Tyra Banks or our desi beauties like Priyanka Chopra or the bong bomb shell Bipasha Basu. And yet a lot of us go through different means to get that physique, sometimes to the point of endangering our bodies and nearly killing ourselves!
We are constantly striving to ‘fit in’, literally and figuratively thanks to the society’s obsession with being thin. But instead of being a part of the crowd we can stick to just being ourselves. The mantra is to accept ourselves the way we are and appreciate what we’ve got.
Gone are those days when plus size fashion was equal to shopping from the men’s section and wearing large T shirts and baggy trousers. Today, a lot of fashion brands have accepted the fact that all women can’t be a size 2 or 4 and hence have started catering to the demands of the big, bold and beautiful ladies. So how does a plus size girl be on the full side and yet be a gorgeous fashionista? It s simply a matter of choosing styles that would flatter the body, highlight the wanted curves and at the same time cover up the unwanted ones.
Here are a few simple rules to get that desired look:
# Be careful to choose the right fit for your body. Don’t go for items which fit too tightly. Choosing the items which are too tight will not look classy. At the same time, items which are too baggy should be avoided. Get hold of those lovely tunics or long funky T-shirts and pair them with classic black/white tights. It would totally give you an uber-cool look!

A plain shirt can also do wonders when worn with a pair of denims. The idea is to not hide your body but show off those beautiful curves in a classy and chic manner!

# Avoid fussy prints: Fussy fabrics have the tendency to make one look even bigger. While we are proud of our curves, the clothing we choose should make the most of our full figures, enhancing them instead of giving them wrong definition.
# Go in monochromes: Dressing in just one colour creates the illusion of length. A monochromatic outfit also takes the eyes of the beholder away from what you deem as unsightly curves.

Grab those gorgeous summer dresses and flaunt those lovely pastel colours which will brighten up your face as well!
# Avoid low-waisted pants/denims which make the tummy bulge out and draw attention to the hips. Go forboot-cut pants which create the perfect balance since they flare at the bottom.
# Try and avoid wearing anything that is too short. If you have beautiful legs, be proud of them and show them off by all means whenever you get a chance, however do this with taste, style and moderation.

Grab a pair of those ravishing pencil-cut denims and team them up with those awesome long T-shirts, tunics or jumpers.

# Don’t go for frocks or frilly clothes clothes as they magnify your appearance greatly.
# Footwear: Go for a sleek pair of footwear which will complement with your clothes and give a narrower look to your lower body. Pick up all those bright & lovely chappals and coordinate them with your clothes. Wearing heeled shoes make your legs look longer which in turn creates the illusion of a thinner body.
# Accessorize!: The most important thing needed to spice up your wardrobe and give you that complete & perfect look are accessories! You can find several nice, inexpensive, funky accessories which can jazz up your clothing. But make sure you don’t go overboard. Choose one or two items that complement your clothes and body like a chunky neck piece or a set of bangles.

You can also pull back your hair in a low maintenance style and wear a headband in accordance with the colour of your clothes to lend that polished look to your face. Find basic headbands which will add a shock of colour to your outfit, or simply add a classic touch in black or navy.

Scarves are another desirable item in that ‘perfect wardrobe.’ Go grab those vibrant & gorgeous scarves and carry them off with the subtle shades on the colour palette!

If you’re not comfortable with what you’re wearing..then DON’T wear it because confidence is the best accessory.
So all you beautiful ladies, gear up and hit the roads. Big is not bulky anymore, its just beautiful!
